R. Kelly is allegedly dating a 19-year-old model named
Halle Calhoun, and fans on Twitter are now reacting to the rumor that the 49-year-old R&B artist is romancing a much younger woman. See fan reactions below.
The musician’s relationship with younger girls has been a source of controversy for most of his career. Vibe magazine reported, though it was never officially confirmed, that R. Kelly had illegally married the late singer Aaliyah in 1994 when she was 15-years-old, and he was 27. And in 2002, a video emerged allegedly depicting R. Kelly having sex with an underage girl, for which he was later acquitted. It should be noted, Calhoun is of legal age and a consenting adult, so this latest situation isn’t exactly comparable to those incidents.
Over the weekend, R. Kelly was reportedly spotted alongside Calhoun at the Atlanta club, Gold Room. The model has also recently shared a few photos of herself and the singer on her Instagram page, including the one featured above. As a result, many people on Twitter are speculating that the two are dating, and mocking the singer’s supposed new relationship.
One person tweeted, “R. Kelly’s albums are older than his girlfriend,” while another user noted, “R. Kelly is trending for exactly what you’d think.” Given the R&B star’s history, one fan said, “No one is shocked that R. Kelly’s girlfriend is 19 years old. No one.”Another Twitter user joked, “Sure, R. Kelly’s new gf wasn’t conceived yet when ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ topped the charts but c’mon, at 19 she’s actually a bit old for him.” One fan similarly quipped, “R. Kelly is the Woody Allen of black people,” while another person said, “I see R. Kelly is still R. Kellying.”
“49 yr old R. Kelly is dating a 19 yr old. She’s about 5 years older than most girls he dates, so Kelly considers her a cougar,” joked one Twitter user. And another person said, “R. Kelly wrote ‘Age Aint nothing but a Number’ for Aaliyah when she was 15. That should tell you everything you need to know.” These are just a few of the thousands of tweets mocking R. Kelly’s alleged new relationship.
