Two of Niall Horan’s artists on The Voice took the stage with a cover of a heartfelt Kelsea Ballerini ballad during the latest battle rounds that aired on Tuesday (October 14).

Camille Tredoux and Kayleigh Clark performed “Cowboys Cry Too,” a vulnerable duet that appeared on Ballerini’s fifth studio record, Patterns, last year. The country-pop megastar teamed up with Grammy-nominated artist Noah Kahan on the track. Horan said Tredoux and Clark delivered a rendition that sounded like “two completely different genres” in a country song, and “both of them are as good as each other.”

Horan offered feedback to Tredoux and Clark in rehearsals alongside his battle advisor, award-winning singer-songwriter and musician Lewis Capaldi. Ballerini, who served as battle advisor on coach Michael Bublé’s team, said “I was so flattered that they’re singing it. …I can’t wait to watch it. I get to fangirl.”

Coach and country legend Reba McEntire hailed Tredoux and Clark “a great duo. Both of you are great vocalists.” She went on to liken both Voice artists to powerhouse singers. “Camille, I love your voice. It’s got a little bit of Stevie Nicks on the end, but then the roundness at the beginning. And then, Kaleigh, you’re a cross between Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood with your vocals.”

“I loved it. These two should’ve never been put together,” Horan said. For the first time in the history of The Voice, the contestants chose their own battle partners (rather than the coaches). “I think, Camille, you were absolutely brilliant. Your tone really stands out. And Kaleigh, this song was perfect for you. You sing it so clean, so clear. …I’m mind-blown by the quality of my team. I just can’t believe it. And I can’t believe that I have to say no to someone now. It’s gonna kill me.”
